Buying tip

I reason to choose the SE over the LE is the upgraded seats. Even though you get a somewhat firmer ride, the seats are more comfortable and supportive.

The 2016 Toyota Camry offers a controlled ride and plenty of interior comfort, making information technology pleasant for the driver and passengers alike.

The Toyota Camry is America'due south acknowledged motorcar, despite the fact that information technology competes against strong competition like the Honda Accord, Ford Fusion, Hyundai Sonata, and Mazda Mazda6. With constantly evolving competition, Toyota saw fit to give the Camry a very extensive refresh last yr, in only the third model twelvemonth since its redesign. With and so much alter terminal year, this year sees simply a new Special Edition model and the addition of smartphone navigation through the Entune Sound Plus system.

The Camry's await is modern, refined, and about uncharacteristically bold. The front end is the most aggressive, with a wide maw, LED front running lamps, and available LED car-leveling lamps for the low and loftier beams. The side sail metal flows nicely and features a grapheme line that slopes down to the forepart wheels. The taillights are connected past a chrome bar that runs beyond the torso.

Within, the Camry features more than soft bear upon surfaces than in the past and they are thoughtfully absolute by contrast stitching. The centre stack has a loftier-tech look, and the surface area just ahead of the shift knob features an enclosed bin for personal electronics, with a USB port and an available wireless charging pad.

The 2015 update included more spot welds for a stiffer body, retuned shocks and springs, and additional audio insulation. On the road, those changes brand the Camry a improve-driving car. In the cushy Camry XLE especially, information technology all adds up to a sophisticated experience that retains its traditional smooth ride while adding more stability and control. The SE and XSE models—with their 18-inch wheels, unique shocks, firmer pause bushings, and stiffer springs—are even more responsive, but they still ride quite well.

Powertrains were not changed last year. The base engine is a 178-horsepower two.5-liter inline-four. It can feel lackluster amidst present-twenty-four hours rivals, as information technology lacks direct injection or turbocharging, too equally the more accessible low rpm torque of those newer, higher-tech powertrains. The 268-hp 3.five-liter Five-six and 200-hp Hybrid, however, are more engaging. The Hybrid model, which features a two.five-liter Atkinson-cycle four-cylinder engine and Hybrid Synergy Drive system, is covered in a separate report. The Camry 5-6 and stands out equally enjoyable, and delivers a 0-to-60-mph time of under six seconds.

The 2016 Camry performs well in crash tests and offers plenty of active safety features, including a lane deviation warning, a pre-collision organization with auto loftier beams, and blind-spot monitors with rear cross-traffic alert. Adaptive prowl control is also bachelor.

Toyota offers the Camry in LE, SE, new for 2016 Special Edition, XLE, and XSE trim levels. These trims essentially consolidate the Camry'due south equipment to a conventional lineup (LE and XLE) and a sporty lineup (SE, Special Edition, and XSE). With many of the latest infotainment features, the Camry'southward feature set is completely at step with that of its rivals.

Infotainment systems are perhaps the heart of it. They piece of work well, without the now almost expected lag and latency, and with intuitive menus. Even at the Camry LE level, you become an Entune touchscreen audio and infotainment system with a CD role player, auxiliary audio input, USB port, voice recognition, Bluetooth hands-costless calling and audio streaming, and 6 speakers. Mid-level models get the Entune Audio Plus organisation with the new Connected Navigation Scout GPS Link App, which uses the customer's smartphone to provide navigation functionality through the caput unit. Peak models get an Entune Premium Audio organization with sound playback capability, HD predictive traffic, Doppler map overlay, and the Entune App Suite, which lets you run Bing search, Pandora, Yelp, and others on the touchscreen through your smartphone's connection.

The base engine is efficient, merely not as efficient equally some rivals. It is EPA rated at 25 mpg metropolis, 35 highway, 28 combined. The V-half dozen offers considerably more power at a minimal fuel-economy penalisation. It is rated at 21/31/25 mpg.

The Hybrid remains the fuel economic system leader of the Camry lineup with ratings as loftier as an astounding 43/39/41 mpg.

A refresh last twelvemonth has given the Camry more visual interest. It'south not a caput-turner, just it is handsome.

Toyota gave the Camry a whole new look for 2015, keeping but the roofline. Information technology adds up to a graceful, handsome appearance.

Upwardly front, the Camry features a thin upper grille with a wide lower maw that fans out toward the lesser, giving the car the look of a mechanical catfish. Information technology's assuming but not off-putting. This, plus a adequately wide track make the front appear wide. The headlights have a swept back design with clear lenses and nice detailing, and upper trims get LED daytime running lamps. Along the sides, there's a character line that slopes downward from the rear toward the front end wheels. The side canvass metallic flows front to rear, ending with a lip spoiler on SE, Special Edition, and XSE models. At the rear, in that location's a curved bar of brightwork that turns down to partially frame the taillights.

About the only matter on the exterior that we find a fleck strange is the sleeky black area just backside the rear doors. Information technology appears as if designers were trying to visually extend the window line, but in a way that impresses as somewhat tacky upwards close.

Inside, Toyota offers cloth, a SofTex suede-like material, and leather and sport leather seat materials. Most models get a 6.1-inch touchscreen front and center, while V-6 models are upgraded to a 7.0-inch screen, and the center stack has large knobs and buttons. The nuance is besides accented by stitching to add both texture and middle entreatment.

Camry V-6 models are quick and all versions offers confident treatment with a polish ride.

Body and break changes made last twelvemonth take added a bit more control to the Camry'southward driving character while maintaining a smooth ride. The body was fabricated stronger through the addition of numerous spot welds, and Toyota gave the car stiffer spring and daze settings. The result is tighter vehicle command and a more than responsive experience at depression speeds while helping filter out bumps and harshness at college speeds and in cruising. On a smoothly surfaced but violently heaving country backroad in the softest-tuned XLE, we were especially impressed by the fashion this plush-riding sedan soaks up the worst of it withal rebounds in a controlled way, all while fugitive the wallowing and floating of soft-riding sedans of the past.

Toyota also reworked the brakes last year, adding a 2-stage master cylinder that does away with the long pedal travel and mushy, sudden engagement at low speeds that has plagued the Camry in the past. It feels more confident, and we promise Toyota deploys this in all their vehicles.

The Camry was e'er fairly repose, but Toyota likewise added more sound insulation last year. We notice wind noise to be well controlled, but nigh of our exposure has been on smoothly surfaced roads so we can't say how well the auto filters out road noise. Nosotros'll update that with more impressions as shortly as we can.

The engines have non been updated for a few years, but, for the most part, that'due south just fine. The base 2.5-liter twin-cam inline-four with variable valve timing makes 178 horsepower and 170 pound-anxiety of peak torque, while the bachelor 3.5-liter V-6 makes 268 hp and 248 lb-ft of torque. Both of these engines are paired with a half dozen-speed automated transmission.

Neither of these engines includes directly injection (or turbocharging, of course), merely the 5-half-dozen particularly has great drivability and more than plenty power for whatsoever situation, even with a full load of passengers and luggage. As for the iv-cylinder, it should be just fine for most drivers, and it's quite polish, simply it'due south a little sluggish off the line and ofttimes feels strained to pull off a leisurely pass or climb a gradual class until the transmission delivers a downshift or two. It exposes the advantage of the more recently re-engineered powertrains in many of the Camry'due south rivals, frankly. Luckily the transmission responds promptly and decisively, in a way that the CVTs in some rival models tin't.

The 2016 Toyota Camry is spacious, comfortable, quiet, with a straightforward interior layout.

From the forepart seats, the Camry feels more than spacious than many of its competitors and their cockpit-influenced interiors. The dash is pushed forward and the corners outward, making the cabin feel more open up and less cramped. Perception and reality sync in this case, where the interior's useful space is plentiful, thanks to the contouring of the dash and doors.

Y'all get somewhat more aggressively contoured sport seats in the SE, Special Edition, and XSE models. While they don't offer much additional lateral support, we felt more snug in them thanks to more thigh support and more than contouring. They'll likely evidence less fatiguing on long trips.

All trims of the 2016 Toyota Camry include dissever-folding rear seat backs, though they don't fold completely flat; Toyota favored adult-size contouring and plenty of padding instead—a determination we actually applaud. And due to the less audacious roofline, you actually become good head room for adults in back. Our 6-foot-6 editor can sit comfortably in the outboard positions of the back seat. Three adults may feel a piddling cramped back there, but that stems generally from the lack of shoulder space that you would get in whatever rival.

With 15.four cubic feet, the body has plenty of space for large suitcases or a big family unit's grocery run. The Camry Hybrid doesn't sacrifice rear seating condolement or much cargo room, simply it does surrender a footling trunk space. Notwithstanding, unless y'all compare information technology against the non-hybrid models, you might hardly know the difference.

Our just complaint is a relative lack of pocket-sized cubbies. The centre console is hinged, but while well-nigh mid-size sedans offer a partition or a smaller upper tray, this is just one large bin.

In addition to interior condolement, the interior materials help make the Camry a pleasant place in which to spend long stretches of time. You can't underestimate the psychological lift lent from the trim and materials upgrades added for 2015. Having more soft-bear upon surfaces up close makes the cabin feel like a more welcoming place.

The dashboard too features a somewhat commonsensical design, with chunky multi-role controllers on either side of the steering wheel, positioned correct where your thumbs can be. Intuitive virtual buttons on the touchscreen make it easy to choose the various controls, equally do big buttons that surround the touchscreen.

The 2016 Toyota Camry offers potent safe ratings and a healthy list of agile-safety features.

All Camry models include ten airbags, with forepart passenger knee bags and rear side airbags for outboard occupants, every bit well as electronic stability control, anti-lock brakes with electronic brake-force distribution, and a Smart Stop Technology brake-override arrangement.

Prophylactic options include a blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic warning, adaptive cruise control, a forward-collision warning system, lane departure warning, and automatic high beams.

The 2016 Toyota Camry has earned very good crash-exam prophylactic ratings.

In tests conducted by the IIHS, the Camry gets the summit "Adept" scores in all categories, plus an "Advanced" rating for front crash protection, earning information technology Acme Condom Choice+ honors. That reflects constant structural comeback because the 2013 Camry received a "Poor" rating for the small frontal overlap test and the 2014 model got an "Acceptable" rating in that test.

Despite the excellent IIHS ratings, the 2016 Camry misses out on acme federal ratings. While it gets a five-star overall rating, its 4-star frontal results (as well as four-star side pole results, which aren't factored into its v-star side score) add upwardly to a vehicle that's non quite in the same echelon equally the Honda Accord or Subaru Legacy.

The 2016 Toyota Camry offers a competitive feature gear up in standard or sport-oriented models.

The 2016 Toyota Camry comes in four chief trim levels, plus a new model. The cadre trim levels are LE, SE, XLE, and XSE, and for 2016 Toyota adds a sport-oriented Special Edition model that fits betwixt the SE and XSE. These trims substantially consolidate the Camry'southward equipment to a conventional lineup (LE and XLE) and a sporty lineup (SE, Special Edition, and XSE). The XE, SE, and Special Edition are offered but with the 2.5-liter inline-4, while the XSE and XLE come with the 2.five or the 3.5-liter V-half-dozen.

The Camry's characteristic set is in step with that of its rivals.

Standard equipment in the 2016 Camry LE includes 16-inch steel wheels, power heated side mirrors, intermittent wipers, a power driver's seat, ac, cruise control, a tilt/telescopic steering bicycle, power windows and locks, keyless entry, and a rearview camera. Buyers also go the Entune 6.1-inch touchscreen audio and infotainment system with a CD thespian, auxiliary audio input, USB port, voice recognition, Bluetooth hands-free calling and audio streaming, and 6 speakers.

SE models add to the LE equipment with 17-inch graphite-finish alloys, a sport suspension, projector-beam headlamps, black trim bezels, a color-keyed rear spoiler, chrome-tipped exhaust, smoked-chrome upper-grille and rear garnish trim, and a sport mesh front grille. Within, they get SofTex imitation leather upholstery, a leather-trimmed steering bike, and brighter Optitron gauges.

The Special Edition adds to the SE equipment a sunroof, keyless ignition, Qi wireless cellphone charging, Entune Sound Plus with Connected Navigation Picket GPS Link app, and blue interior accents including contrast stitching, gauge cluster and trim, and exclusive flooring mats.

The XSE model adds luxury equipment to the SE with sport Ultrasuede seats, dual-zone climate control, LED low and high-beam headlights, LED running lamps, and 18-inch machined blend wheels. When equipped with the V-six, the XSE also gets a universal garage-door opener, an motorcar-dimming rearview mirror, vanity mirrors, reading lights, a sunroof, an acoustic windshield, and dual chrome-tipped frazzle outlets.

Top XLE models retain a feature listing that some might say belongs to a luxury car, as they add keyless ignition, leather seats with power lumbar support, a power front passenger seat, and 17-inch Super Chrome alloys. XSE and XLE models with the 4-cylinder engine get the Entune Audio Plus organization that brings Sirius satellite radio, Hard disk drive radio, HD traffic and atmospheric condition services, and the new smartphone navigation integration.

XSE Five-6 and XLE models also add Qi wireless charging. XSE and XLE models with the Five-half dozen get an Entune Premium Audio organization with audio playback capability, HD predictive traffic, doppler map overlay, and the Entune App Suite, which lets yous run Bing search, Pandora, Yelp, and others on the touchscreen using your smartphone'due south connection.

Equipment for 2016 Toyota Camry Hybrid models roughly parallels that of four-cylinder Camrys of the same trim level, though the Hybrid is simply offered in LE, SE, and XLE trim levels.

Buyers can choose from iv-cylinder, V-6, or hybrid models. The hybrids sip fuel, while the V-6 isn't as thirsty in real-world driving every bit you might expect.

Mid-size sedans seem to exist edging upward into the fuel-efficiency territory that was the domain of meaty cars just a few years ago. And while the Camry Hybrid should go along to beat the EPA combined figures of nigh every other mileage-minded sedan, the rest of the Camry lineup isn't particularly grade-leading.

The base engine is efficient, but not every bit efficient as some rivals. It is EPA rated at 25 mpg city, 35 highway, 28 combined. The V-half dozen offers considerably more than power at what could be viewed equally non likewise much of a fuel economy penalty. It is rated at 21/31/25 mpg.

The Hybrid remains the fuel economic system leader of the Camry lineup with ratings every bit high as an phenomenal 43/39/41 mpg.

I give the 2016 Camry XLE i4 iv Stars for functioning, but the 178-horsepower 4-cylinder engine is more than than acceptable when it comes to acceleration and passing power. I was well over eighty mph before I knew it and luckily there wasn't a cop hiding forth the highway. My first bulldoze on the highway, a 150 mile round trip, exceeded all of my expectations for both acceleration and fuel economic system. I consistently got 37-38 mpg cruising at 65-70 mph. Acceleration was not in any mode disappointing, and I am used to driving a Camry or Lexus with the 3.3 or iii.5 Liter V6. Leaving the highway for a back road where my average speed was around 35 mph gas mileage was pretty consequent at 27-28 mph. These figures are non only very proficient, they are well-nigh as good every bit the Camry Hybrid. As for comfort, the leather seating is comparable to my Lexus ES330, i.e., very comfy and firm. As for the techie-ness, at that place is plenty, and how quickly we get used to conveniences—like Bluetooth and Toyota's Entune audio arrangement with vox recognition, a half-dozen.1-inch touch screen, vi speakers, USB and auxiliary inputs and Siri Eyes Free, which enables iPhone users like me to use voice commands to control a number of my phone'south functions through the Camry'south infotainment organisation. No moonroof, I can live without it, but I really honey the keyless entry and push-button start, the dual-zone automatic climate control, wireless smartphone charging, and a much meliorate GPS navigation system compared to my 2012 Hybrid Camry. The racket level at speed or in terminate and become traffic is quite adequate, particularly with the audio system playing even softly in the background.

Equally for condolement, it's equally every bit comfortable as my Lexus ES350, and nearly as quiet. The interior styling is great, with everything in the right place. As for the exterior styling, honestly I liked the 2012 Camry a little more, merely this i is growing on me. I especially love the grey metal grill and running lights.

Honestly, overall, a sweeter ride cannot be had for under $30K, or even $40K.
